The basic premise of the show is that obese people become contestants who are competing to win $250,000 (originally $100,000) by losing the highest percentage of weight (originally, the winner was to lose the highest amount of weight in pure numbers, but this was later changed to the highest percentage of weight in order to evenly rebalance the playing field).
